Install the theme

To install the theme, you must have a WordPress copy installed on your server. Check with the WordPress information article.

Server requirements

Take a moment to review the server requirements before installation, or you may encounter issues when using our themes.

Step 1 – Download the theme files

Depending on where you purchased your theme, follow the appropriate instructions below to download your installation package:

KeyDesign Pro Theme

If you subscribed to KeyDesign Pro through keydesign.xyz, log in to your myaccount.keydesign.xyz dashboard. Navigate to the downloads section and download the main theme package file to your computer.

ThemeForest Themes

If you purchased a single theme on ThemeForest, go to your account and navigate to the Downloads tab. Locate your theme, click the Download button, and select the installable WordPress file only.

Step 2 – Install the theme

You can install the theme using either the WordPress admin area or an FTP client. Choose the method that best fits your workflow.

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Appearance > Themes.
  3. Click the Add New button at the top of the screen, then click Upload Theme.
  4. Choose the zip file you downloaded in Step 1 and click Install Now.
  5. After the installation completes, click Activate.

Errors and troubleshooting

If you are encountering a WordPress error message or white screen, don’t panic. Someone has likely encountered the same message, which can easily be solved. Please see Cannot upload the theme article.

Method 2: Installing via FTP

Use this method if your server restricts uploading larger files through the WordPress admin area.

  1. Unzip the downloaded zip file on your local computer to extract the main theme folder.
  2. Connect to your server using your preferred FTP client (such as FileZilla, Transmit, or WinSCP).
  3. Navigate to the /wp-content/themes/ directory on your server.
  4. Upload the unzipped theme folder directly into the /wp-content/themes/ directory.
  5. Once the transfer completes, log in to your WordPress dashboard, navigate to Appearance > Themes, and click Activate.

Next steps & plugin setup

After activating your theme, follow the next steps based on your product version to finish setting up your website:

KeyDesign Pro Theme

Once activated, a notification banner will appear at the top of your WordPress dashboard asking you to activate your license. Click the Connect & Activate button to complete the theme activation process using your account credentials. After activation is complete, you will be prompted to install the required and recommended plugins.

ThemeForest Themes

Once the theme is activated, a notification banner will appear at the top of your dashboard prompting you to install the required plugins. Click the link in the notification to complete the automatic plugin installation process.
