Install the child theme

The theme’s main download folder includes a child theme. A WordPress child theme allows you to apply custom code changes to your site. Using a child theme ensures your customizations are not overwritten, even if you update the parent theme.

Installing the child theme via WordPress

Installing the child theme is no different than installing any other WordPress theme:

  1. Download the theme files from ThemeForest > Downloads tab.
  2. Extract the archive and locate the theme-child.zip file.
  3. Navigate to Appearance -> Themes.
  4. Click the Add New button at the top of the screen and click the Upload Theme button.
  5. Upload the theme-child.zip file from your computer and click Install Now.
  6. Activate the child theme.

Why use a child theme?

There are a few reasons why you would want to use a child theme:

  • If you modify a theme directly and it is updated, your modifications may be lost. Using a child theme will ensure that your changes are preserved.
  • Using a child theme can speed up development time.
  • Using a child theme is a great way to learn about WordPress theme development.
